About Aikido Kokikai of Hyattsville
Aikido Kokikai of Hyattsville is just outside Washington
DC near the University of Maryland's main campus in College Park. Where
we hold classes in a spacious gym at the PG Plaza Community Center on
Adelphi road.
Our style of instruction is a hybrid of Japanese and
American methodologies. Traditional Japanese instruction is relatively silent
with very little verbal explaination. The instructor demonstrates a technique
and the students then try to replicate it. While this has some advantages, like
building keen observational skills, we have found that most americans respond
better when there is some verbal explaination of technique. In most other respects
we retain the traditional approaches to instruction and martial art ettiquete.
There are several qualified instructors teaching at Aikido
Kokikai of Hyattsville. The head instructor is a fourth degree black belt, with
experience in other martial arts. All of the instructors have between fourteen
and twenty four years of martial arts experience. Some instructors have also
spent time training in Japan with the founder of our style. These men and women
strive to bring out the best in all of us with energetic, quality teaching.
Our instructors and students come from a variety of backgrounds
which makes training with this not-for-profit group both valuable and fun. |
